Dev Benegal - Feature Film
By mosquitomassala | On 25/07/2020 | In Film / Music Video / TVC
Samvida Nanda of the Mosquito Massala had the pleasure to work with Dev Benegal and his production house August Entertainment.
Working with him and Sarat Rao, on their ongoing scripts entitled "Dead End" and "Bombay Samurai", Samvida had the opportunity to learn about the process of creating Moodboards and LookBooks that help define the character, world and mood of feature films. From editing an animatics using the images from the storyboard to undertand the pacing of the film; to wandering through Delhi, Noida, Bombay and the vast arrays of the internet to seek out strange and facinating architecture for inspiration; to exploring the world of cinema and delve into film noirs; and working on sub projects such as Graphic Design of Posters and other visual elements to aid in the submission of "Dead End" to various film festivals, to so much more!
We are happy to announce that director Dev Benegal’s pitch for a dark comedy ‘Dead End’ was named as the best project at the Network of Asian Fantastic Films .
"The story of a man who is declared as dead by a shady government department and has to take extreme measures to prove that he is alive, was written by Benegal and Sarat Rao and is to be produced by Satish Kaushik Entertainment and Benegal’s August Entertainment. The Bucheon Award is worth $15,000."

"2B or not 2B" By Samvida Nanda
Made in Srishti, Bangalore, 2011
2B not 2B is also viewable on:
Hotstar : https://www.hotstar.com/in/
MX player : https://www.mxplayer.in/movie/
LogLine: A man draws a double of himself into the animated world with a magic 2B pencil. But who is the double really? The one that is drawn? Or the one that drew him.
Direction: Samvida Nanda
Image, Camera: Shivani Kabra, Samvida Nanda
Animation: Mitalee Rawat, Samvida Nanda
Story and Script: Samvida Nanda
Editing: Samvida Nanda
Sound: Saurabh Levin, Samvida Nanda
Director's Note:
I wanted to investigate the mix of mediums of film and animation to create layers within a story. Each form can represent a different state of reality. Where do these realities meet? Can a hat that a character draws in the animation, become his prop in the film? How do objects travel across mediums?
The result is a short fiction film about a man who discovers and (mis)uses a magic 2B pencil which links the animated world to his world. He ignores the words of caution spoken by his double (who he drew into the animated world). When events escalate to affect the girl he loves, he is confronted with a choice of relinquishing his new found power to his double, or to lose her forever. But is the double truly seeking to fix the wrongs? Or does he have another agenda of his own? Which world is within the other? Who is the double really? The one that is drawn? Or the one that Drew him.

TVC + Digital AD for SMAAASH
By mosquitomassala | On 05/06/2020 | In Film / Music Video / TVC
VJing is an art which combines many skillsets.
Mosquito Massala's Samvida Nanda started out with a base in Design and Filmmaking. An exciting project wherein she worked as the DA with the Production House, Melting Clock in Mumbai, saw the creation of ad commercials for sharings as TVCs and Digital contents for SMAAASH. The campaign was around welcoming all the sports fans out there to "Hit Your Play Button!"
It was a great experience for her to work on the shot breakdown, and lights, and sceneography, for an ad series which mixed film and animation; and featured the iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar!
